Public announcements in the streets of Japan are common. (They tell children it's time to go home at dusk, for instance). There is a certain type no one wants to hear though: the one announcing a potential catastrophe. On March 11 2011 we had one of those. This track is inspired by the sound of these public announcements. The lyrics are dedicated to the victims of the earthquake and subsequent tsunami and Fukushima plant refugees, but also to the victims of misinformation. Following the terrible event, not a few western media embarked on the spreading of the idea that the worst was yet to come. Having no evidence on what they were publishing, thus showing their eagerness for something worse to happen and pushing thousands of expats to flee and their families to suffer unnecessarily.
The Quake (こちらは) by Jan Niemand
He slept but then the quake
His nap could not respect
The dream got then canceled
He had to take the plane
The guys with pens always know better
They show you things you cannot see
They shape your life, tell you what to do
And take their share of you and me
In your head, your head, congregated in your head
In your head, your head, congregated in your head
Her mother was so scared
She left with that month's rent
But then it was all fake
By then it was too late
The guys with mics, they want to kill you
The many deaths are not enough
They kill your loved ones, that's what they do
They worsen what's already bad
In your head, your head, congregated in your head
In your head, your head, congregated in your head
Well today and at nights
It seems you're living another life
And the tears that you cry
They're bound to die
And your mum and her grief
Well that's just something you won't forgive
The lost eyes and scared smiles
They're bound to be
You don't know what to do
But then not only you
Felt shame for thinking bad
Felt shame for feeling glad
The shortest time was made the longest
For many it will never end
You have to show you are the strongest
They do attack thus you defend
In your head...
